DUNCAN —
It could get a little noisy on Main Street Duncan tonight. That’s because The Palace Theater will transform into an open venue for people of all denominations to share their love of music and worship through “The Noise.”
And for Stephens County Worship Center’s Creative Arts Pastor Gabriel Amaya, he’s hoping it gets real noisy “in the house.”
Originally founded by Joshua and Danielle Guthrie in Poplar Bluff, Mo., January 2012, the concept of The Noise has spread to many churches in many states and now is catching on in Duncan. Tonight’s event will be the third time for The Noise to happen in Duncan, thanks to this month’s sponsor, Stephens County Worship Center.
Amaya said when the Guthries first introduced this event in Missouri, it was to hold a monthly worship experience on the last Sunday night of the month in a neutral community location that was not a church.
Danielle is originally from Duncan and now that she and her husband have returned here to live, they are getting help from local churches to promote The Noise, which has also been held at RawChurch.tv, and New Life Church.
Amaya, who hails originally from southern California, has a strong musical influenced background.
“We are excited to host The Noise at SCWC. Pastor Russ Stewart and I have served in worship together for years, that’s how we met,” Amaya said Saturday. “We are expecting amazing things to happen in Duncan through this incredible worship movement. It’s not about one denomination or one church, it’s about coming together and worshiping our God as one body of believers.”
Amaya said that when the Guthries first started The Noise in Missouri, they received some opposition from different venues in the community, but they didn’t let that stop them.
Josh was a contemporary worship pastor at Fellowship Church in Poplar Bluff at the time. When the event was deemed a success, with many people attending from other churches, then many more churches became interested. By the time summer 2012 rolled around, The Noise had filled larger churches and the “band” included worship leaders from numerous denominations — Assemblies of God, Church of God in Anderson, Ind., Southern Baptist, General Baptist, Pentecostal Holiness and more.
Amaya met with the Guthries earlier this week, which has amped up his excitement about SCWC hosting the event. SCWC is a non-traditional church that bases much of its service around music. Its service time is at 10 a.m. each Sunday in The Palace Theatre. The Noise will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
