City employees to receive awards for service

DUNCAN — It is better late than never. City Manager Jim Frieda will be awarded with a pin for his 25 years of service at the Tuesday night meeting of the Duncan City Council. Frieda reached 25 years of service in 2009 but an oversight caused him to be omitted from the list of employees submitted to the Oklahoma Municipal League. Frieda’s name will be be added to the permanent honor roll at the OML office.

In addition to Frieda’s service recognition, Mayor Gene Brown and the members of the city council will be awarding one city employee with an award for Employee of the Year. The selected employee will receive a plaque and will also have their name etched into the large plaque at Duncan City Hall. The employee will receive two extra days vacation as an award.

Frieda was named the Employee of the Year in 2012. During Tuesday’s meeting, 29 employees will be recognized and given a service pin for completing 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service in 2012. Julio Alvarez, Ron Arenz, Bob Lozano, Clay McCarley, Matt Moreno, Leland Parker, Robert Rightmire and Joe Sprouse will all receive pins for five years of service. Lesa Adkins, Kenneth Amck, Nathan Carrio, Cody Davis, Bill Fitzhugh, Scott Mathis and Wes Wainscott will all receive pins for 10 years of service.

Nathan Carver, Ron Corcorran, Keith Pemberton, Chris Perkins, Lynn Thacker, Bo Walker and David Woods will be receiving pins for 15 years of service. Jeff Bruehl, Bill Holden, Darbie LaFontain, Rodney Martin, James Phillips, Bob Prichard and Rann White will receive pins for 20 years of service.

The council will also receive a presentation from Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority’s Drake Rice on the use of geothermal energy.

In other business, the council will consider:

* The purchase of 10 patrol units for the police department.

* The purchase of one Ford F250 Extended Cab two-wheel-drive cab and chassis.

* The purchase of police vehicle equipment from Lonestar Products and Equipment

* The purchase of one animal control chassis mount containment unit

* A rezoning request for general commercial zoning for the property located at the southeast corner of Elk Avenue and north U.S. Hwy 81 and an emergency in relation to this item.
