Rapid Response Team initiated to help Halliburton employees affected by layoffs

Event set for Tuesday

DUNCAN — Workforce Oklahoma Duncan has initiated its Rapid Response Team in response to the Halliburton layoffs which began Sunday and continue today. Three events are planned for Tuesday at the Red River Technology Center.

Chris Moore, Center Manager for Oklahoma Employment Security Commission at Workforce Duncan Center, said that when they initiated this in 2009 following the Halliburton layoff, they saw great success at getting people retrained and back to work.

“We had a lot of people very interested in a lot of programs and a lot of people trained and put back to work,” he said. “It gives them all the information they need, so they don’t have to come here (Workforce Duncan Center).”

Meetings are set for 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. in the Jerry D. Morris Business Center at RRTC. There will be signs to direct individuals to the correct room.

There will be representatives from Workforce Duncan, the unemployment division for claim processing, Cameron University, Red River Technology Center, Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation and ASCOG. There also will be representatives from Department of Human Services to help people with insurance options and other benefits they may be qualified for.

“The centralized nature of the whole thing makes it work. The focus is on getting information from every agency in town that is set up to help them,” Moore said.

For those who attend, they can expect a presentation and be able to directly ask questions of the representatives there. This also helps them quickly transition, whether it be to another job, unemployment or retraining. It takes much of the guesswork out of being unemployed and wondering what to do next.

Moore said that the Halliburton employees who were laid off and had their one-on-one meetings at that company, were informed about Tuesday’s Rapid Response event.

“They were given an opportunity to sign up at their one-on-one meeting,” he said.
