DUNCAN —
Stephens County Sheriff’s deputies are still searching for an individual who stole a vehicle that was parked outside Freedom Biker Church in Duncan Tuesday evening.
Also, authorities are advising that everyone lock their vehicles since there appears to be quite a few vehicles being stolen.
Sheriff Wayne McKinney said the vehicles are being taken from the county and found in area cities, and they are being taken from inside Duncan city limits and found in the county.
“We don’t know what they are up to. The cars aren’t being stripped or anything and they are found not long after,” he said.
McKinney said besides the stolen vehicle Tuesday night that was recovered after the pursuit, two other vehicles have been recovered this week, including one Wednesday morning.
Another vehicle which had been stolen from the Central High community was found in Lawton late last week, he s aid.
For about four hours Tuesday night, authorities were involved in a manhunt in the Comanche Lake and Oliver Road, using tracking dogs, but had no luck in finding the suspect.
McKinney said Duncan Police broadcast the description of the vehicle and when one of McKinney’s deputies saw it on State Highway 7, just east of Duncan, he went to stop it.
A pursuit began and the man crashed into a pasture and then escaped into the heavy wooded area.
“That particular area, east of Comanche Lake Road, is thick with trees.
There is no road east of there for about five or six miles. He got off into the woods and we wore our dogs out trying to hunt him,” McKinney said. “He’s hunkered down.”
McKinney said DPD was notified and took possession of the vehicle to process it.
He also said the vehicle that had been stolen from the CH area did provide some evidence.
“We did get a good fingerprint.”
McKinney said they don’t know if there is more than one person involved with the car thefts.
The suspect is described as a white male, with a scruffy beard. He was wearing a ball cap and shorts.
“We’re obviously not out there searching now, but everyone should use caution. He’s probably not out there now, but people need to lock their cars.”

Monkeypox must be a joke from above
It’s been over 10 years since I moved out of sporting writing and began writing a column for the editorial page. Every so often this year, I’m rerunning a piece from the first year of the transition. This column first appeared in The Duncan Banner in June 2003.

A special day for memories
Father’s Day is a special occasion in my life. Thoughts of my dad surface easily. And lessons he taught seem to be entrenched in the lives of our three sons even though he died before their births.
