Stage set for Duncan Grove’s Bluegrass Festival

DUNCAN — The second annual Duncan’s Grove Bluegrass Festival kicked off with activities Tuesday night, but Friday is when all the music notes hit the air.

For 18 years, the festival took place at Shady Oaks RV Park and then this past April, the festival was held at Duncan’s Grove, located one-half mile east of N St. on Chestnut.

From what Lisa Rice, Duncan’s Grove’s owner and operator along with husband Scott, has gathered, it was a success.

“It went well and I was pleased with the turnout,” she said. “We’ve had great response from people and with it being closer to town, they were better able to visit local merchants.”

While the first band, the Praise Band from the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ, hits the stage tonight during the cookout, the bluegrass line up starts Friday at 1:30 p.m. and will keep on going until about 11 p.m.

Saturday, they kick back up at 12:30 p.m. and go again until 11 p.m. and then it’s bright and early Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for a devotional time.

A few of the bands a returning acts while there are some new ones from out of town.

“We have a total of seven bands coming and three have played here before,” Rice said. “We have two coming from the Tennessee area and the Triple L Band from New Mexico.”

It’s a family oriented event and no drugs or alcohol are allowed on the premises.

The Rice’s, along with family and friends, have put a lot of work into making the grounds beautiful and a place to enjoy the outdoors. Since April, they added a couple new facilities.

“We added a couple of small cabins and they rented for this festival almost immediately,” said Rice. “We’re hoping to build more over the winter.”

For those wishing to spend the weekend out at Duncan’s Grove, there are limited full hookups for water and electric but also space for primitive camping, which is free with admission.

For admission to the music festival days, tickets are available for Friday, Saturday or Sunday individually or you may purchase a weekend pass.  Kids 12 and under are free.

Any questions or requests for reservations may be directed to Lisa Rice at 580-606-9133.

“We’re looking forward to this one being even better,” she said.
