DUNCAN —
A Stephens County Sheriffs Deputy came to aid of Jefferson County law enforcement Sunday night as the deputy assisted in the high speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle and arresting the suspect.
Paul Trent Dodson, 46, of Pryor, is facing multiple charges in relation to allegedly stealing a silver Dodge Ram truck from the Jefferson County District 1 Sunday evening and leading law enforcement officials on a chase through two counties, Sheriff Wayne McKinney said.
Dodson was arrested by Deputy Matthew Peck after Peck pursued the suspect on a high speed chase on county roads, reaching speeds of 100 mph and through multiple plowed fields before crashing into a creek bed and fleeing the vehicle.
As Dodson abandoned the vehicle, Deputy Peck announced he was going to release his K-9 partner, Bak and Dodson responded by saying “Okay! I give up! My hands are up!” according to the incident report released by the Stephens County Sheriffs Office
Deputy Peck was advised from County Dispatch at approximately 9:27 p.m. that Jefferson County officials were in pursuit of vehicle east from County Road 285 and were one mile south of the Jefferson/Stephens County line.
Deputy Peck joined the pursuit and after hearing the description of the vehicle, noticed it traveling towards at 69 mph in a 55 mph zone, he turned around and started chasing the vehicle.
The high speed chase continued as Dodson exited the road into a plowed field on the southeast corner of CR 289 and State Highway 53, traveling approximately 75 yards through the field before exiting onto CR 289, traveling south.
Dodson then drove through a pipe-fenced gate when he reached a cross section in the roadway and proceeded to drive into the pasture.
After approximately 200 yards, Dodson entered the wood line and drove an approximate 50 yards into the woods before crashing into a creek bed.
In addition to charges filed in Jefferson County in relation to the stolen vehicle and chase, Stephens County officials are filing charges of attempting to elude police and possession of a stolen vehicle against the suspect.
Dodson was released into the custody of the Jefferson County Police Department Sunday night.

Monkeypox must be a joke from above
It’s been over 10 years since I moved out of sporting writing and began writing a column for the editorial page. Every so often this year, I’m rerunning a piece from the first year of the transition. This column first appeared in The Duncan Banner in June 2003.

A special day for memories
Father’s Day is a special occasion in my life. Thoughts of my dad surface easily. And lessons he taught seem to be entrenched in the lives of our three sons even though he died before their births.
