Duncan couple faces additional drug charges

DUNCAN — Two Duncan residents arrested by Stephens County Deputies Thursday morning face new charges after disclosing they were in possession of approximately a 1/4 pound of marijuana in their residence while being placed into custody.

Deputies arrived at 2004 W. Main around 7:10 a.m. Thursday morning to pick up Gerry Brown based on information he was staying at the location, Sheriff Wayne McKinney said.

When deputies arrived at the home, Brown came outside and when the deputies approached him, McKinney said that Brown had a strong odor of marijuana.

After Brown was placed under arrest for his warrant for possession of a controlled substance, he gave permission for the house to be searched.

According to the affidavit filed in Stephens County Court, Brown told deputies, “There is some paraphernalia in the house.”

While searching the house, the deputies found Christina Michelle Sloan, Brown’s wife, and discovered there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest, also for possession of a controlled substance.

After being placed into custody and signing a consent to search form, Sloan directed deputies to the south east bedroom.

“She gave permission to search the home and as they searched, they found a large amount of marijuana and a large amount of cash,” McKinney said.

The affidavit noted Sloan led the deputies to the bedroom where the marijuana was stored in a wooden box and towards scales and a wallet on the opposite side of the room.

Approximately $2,350 in cash was in Brown’s wallet and approximately a 1/4 pound clear plastic bag of a ‘green leafy substance’ was discovered.

Enough marijuana was found to qualify for charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute felony charges to be filed against Sloan and Brown.

Both are facing the original possession charges and intent to distribute charges with their bond set at $22,000 each with their preliminary hearings set for 2 p.m. Nov. 7.

Both individuals remain in custody in the Stephens County Jail.
