Suspect faces new car theft charge

DUNCAN — A Michigan man being held in Stephens County Jail waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Stephens County District Court, while a new charge of motor vehicle theft was added to the list of five felony charges.

Additionally, a misdemeanor charge also was added and the suspect faces multiple charges for string of alleged crimes across Stephens County.

A felony charge of Larceny of Automobile was filed in district court Tuesday against Michael Alan Parsons, 26, of Walkerville, Mich., for the alleged theft of a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe from a home on Tucker Road on July 10.

Parsons was already facing multiple felony charges for False Declaration of Ownership in Pawn, Knowingly Concealing Stolen Property, Uttering a Forged Device, Unauthorized Possession of Credit Card and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer.

District 6 Assistant District Attorney Greg Steward said Parsons waived his preliminary hearing and his next court appearance will be Nov. 7. He is still being held in the county jail.

According to the affidavit, Parsons requested to talk to a Stephens County Sheriff’s deputy on Aug. 27 and admitted during an interview to stealing the Chevy Tahoe on Tucker Rd. and two other vehicles in the Duncan area.

The victim’s husband gave chase to the stolen vehicle after spotting it heading eastbound on State Highway 7 around 5:30 a.m. July 10. The suspect turned north on Comanche Lake Road and turned off its lights while continuing driving north and in the process of chasing the stolen vehicle, the victim’s husband wrecked his own vehicle.

The suspect was arrested July 20 in Marlow after Marlow Police Department officers were called to the 100 block of W. Arapahoe around 7:48 p.m. after a resident called in to report a man running out of a patch of bushes, stating he was being chased and they were going to kill him.

Officers caught up with him in the Marlow Food Market and after being identified for a possible warrant out of Stephens County, fled officers before being caught behind a business.

He attempted to jump a fence when Marlow Officer Bryan Janz caught up with Parsons, and put him in custody.

“As they were taking him in, a short foot pursuit occurred and he was taken back into custody,” Marlow Police Chief Jimmy Williams said.

Charges also filed against Parsons include:

- False Declaration of Ownership in Pawn for allegedly pawning a Ridgid Sewer Jet from Chisholm Mall in early July.

The pawn ticket had Parsons’ name on it, declaring ownership but not listing how long he owned the item.

- Knowingly Concealing Stolen Property for a checkbook found while being taken into MPD custody on July 20 not belonging to Parsons.

- Uttering Forged Device for using the aforementioned checkbook at Cash & Dash in Duncan on July 19 for writing three checks to be cashed.

Two checks in the amount of $425 and $225 were cashed before employees raised concern about the third check for $493. Parsons left the uncashed check and his Michigan Driver’s License at the place of business and ran away.

- Unauthorized Use of Credit Card for purchasing $44.80 in gasoline at Cash & Dash on July 19 while trying to cash a check mentioned in the Uttering Forged Device charge.

A unidentified female pumped the gas using a stolen credit card. The victim thought was the card was lost, the affidavit states after police officers made contact with her.

- Two counts of Unauthorized Possession of Credit Card after Parsons was witnessed on video tape stealing a purse from a Quality Inn employee while she was at work on July 20 and attempting to use one bank card for $300 while successfully using the other one for $11.35 for a pre-paid cellular phone minutes card.

Video from Wal-Mart and Quality Inn was used to determine it was the same individual.
