House fire on 18th under investigation

DUNCAN —

Duncan firefighters were able to rescue a woman from a burning home around 9 p.m. Monday at 603 N. 18th St., but the woman was quickly mediflighted to Parkview Hospital in Dallas, Texas, for treatment.
As of late Tuesday, she was in stable condition, said Duncan Deputy Fire Chief Dayton Burnside.
“The living room was heavily damaged by fire and the rest of the house was consumed by heat and smoke damage. The fire
started in the front living room,” Burnside said.
Because the woman remains in the hospital, he could not provide her name, he said. Burnside did say that she was recovered from the back bedroom.
“Our firefighters responded rapidly, and did a rapid knock down and search and rescue.”
He said they quickly began CPR once they had her out of the house.
Firefighters and Duncan police officers provided a human shield to protect the woman from the public’s view while they performed CPR on her in the front yard.
Burnside said the fire is still under investigation but foul play has been ruled out.
“We should have a determination probably by the end of the week.”
Detective Bill Fitzhugh is investigating this fire.
This is the second home fire in March in which a woman was pulled from by firefighters. The first one happened Friday, March 1, and the woman, Debbi Timms, did not survive. Her death was listed as smoke inhalation.
