Peyton’s Place restaurant to pay back wages after U.S. probe

DUNCAN — An Oklahoma restaurant has agreed to pay $84,864 in back wages to 30 current and former servers following an investigation by the U.S Department of Labor.

The agency said Wednesday that Peyton’s Place in Duncan agreed to pay the back wages after it found violations of the minimum wage and record-keeping provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The investigation discovered that the employer failed to pay servers the required minimum wage of $2.13 per hour for tipped employees, instead requiring them to work only for tips. The agency says the company also did not maintain records of the numbers of hours worked by employees.

The restaurant’s manager, Lauren Brown, says she was not familiar with the investigation.

Owner Justin Griffith did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
