DUNCAN —
A motor vehicle pulled over by Duncan Police for dim headlights last week resulted in the arrest of the three occupants of the vehicle for possession of a controlled substance.
Misty Stevens, Cody Son and Justin Ross were arrested by DPD officers Aug. 1 for possession of marijuana during a traffic stop for a dim headlight and non-functioning tag light, according to an affidavit filed in Stephens County Court.
Son and Stevens face misdemeanor charges while Ross faces an felony charge for the possession of a controlled substance.
Officer Ryan Atkinson initiated the traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 81 and Gatlin Rd., and approached the vehicle after Master Officer Michael Wilson arrived at the location as backup.
Officer Atkinson was awaiting for information from dispatch to be cleared, M.O. Wilson deployed Bo, his state certified K-9 around the exterior of the vehicle and alerted Wilson to the presence of narcotics.
Officer Atkinson asked Stevens to exit the vehicle and after being asked if she had any narcotics, Stevens told the officer she had marijuana in her purse located in the car.
Son and Ross were asked one at a time to exit the vehicle and both admitted to being in possession of narcotics with Ross carrying approximately two ounces of marijuana in the front of his pants.
During a post-arrest interview listed in the affidavit, Stevens said Ross had contacted Son about finding some marijuana to purchase. Stevens drove Ross and Son to Lawton to buy some marijuana from an unknown individual at the home of Son’s sister.
Son later told Atkinson he had been contacted by Ross, who wanted help to buy some marijuana and after arriving at his sister’s house, left to another location where Ross purchased all the marijuana and gave Son a “quarter sack” as payment for his help.
Son and Stevens were released from Stephens County Jail on $1,000 bond and will return to court on Sept. 14 while Ross remains in custody on $10,000 bond.
