DUNCAN —
After completing the installation of the geothermal system in the new city hall building, the City of Marlow was presented two checks totaling a little more than $54,000 in rebates.
Workers on the site were able to finish the work on the geothermal heating and air system on the new City Hall building under renovation at 119 S. Second St. in time to meet the deadline for the Oklahoma Comfort Program ran by the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority.
The OCP was designed to provide energy rebates and audits for installation of geothermal heat pump systems as part of the Stimulus State Energy Program, ran by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
$38,700 was the amount the City of Marlow received from the OCP.
“We were able to complete it under the deadline,” City Administrator Janice Cain said. “We met the guidelines and Palma (Lough) is here to present us a check.”
Energy Services Representative for OMPA, Lough was on hand to present two checks, one for the OCP but also another program the City of Marlow qualified for.
The city was also able to receive $15,480 from the W.I.S.E. rebate program offered by the OMPA.
The W.I.S.E rebate program is designed to assist customers purchasing energy-efficient air conditioners and electric heat pumps for their homes and for subdivision homebuilders.
The goal in mind with the W.I.S.E rebate is to reduce peak utility usage in summer months and reduce overall load on the energy infrastructure.
Since Marlow is one of the member cities in the program with OMPA, the city and OMPA usually split the cost of funding the rebate to customers who applied for it.
“Typically, that would go to the customer and the funds would be split between the city and OMPA. But we didn’t expect you to cut yourself (City of Marlow) a check. We then have a W.I.S.E. rebate check for OMPA’s half at $15,480,” Lough said.
In other action:
- The council members denied the re-zoning request from Michael and Kelly Sellers for 806 S. 10th to a R-3 multiple family zoning from the current R-1 single family dwelling.
- One bid was received for the street overlay project and was awarded to T&G Construction at $72.95 per ton.
- The bid for four police traffic radars was awarded to U.S. Radar Inc. at a cost of $4,400.
- Angel, Johnston and Blasingame, P.C. were approved by the council members to conduct the audit for the fiscal year 2011-2012 and Rahaal Henderson Johnson, PLLC were approved to provide assistance in financial reporting, according to new accounting procedures.
