Rodney Love was selected to serve as president for the Red River Technology Center Board of Education for a second year during Monday night’s regular board meeting.
Love has served on the board for two five-year terms. He ran opposed securing his third five-year term on Feb. 6. Love has served as board president for the past four years.
Love will once again be relying on Gary Carter as vice-president. Carter administered the oath of office to Rodney Love. Love represents Zone 3 for the board.
Dee Williams, who served as a member last year, will be fulfilling the role of deputy clerk this year.
“The deputy clerk can perform the same duties as the clerk of the board,” RRTC Superintendent Dennis Loafman said. “That would be in the clerk’s absence if we needed them. They can countersign warrants, access the treasury and anything the clerk can usually do.”
In addition, the board approved the $173,803.72 purchase of curriculum for the 2013-14 school year. The cost covers the annual purchase of new textbooks and programs for the school’s various programs. Loafman also said the price includes the renewal of software subscriptions needed for programs such as the drafting program for the pre-engineering classes.
Employees of RRTC will be transitioning to a four-day work week during the summer session. Employees will work from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
This schedule was first implemented by former superintendent Ken Layn for summer 2012. It is structured similarly to the City of Duncan’s regular work week.
Loafman said that many schools across the country have implemented this change.
“It saves a little money on utilities and it gives people some time off,” he said.
The summer hours will be implemented starting June 3. Normal hours are expected to resume July 27.
