Velma drug testing policy to take effect

DUNCAN — Velma Town Council voted at its meeting Tuesday, to raise the fines for various offenses, which now brings the fine rates up to the state level.

They will soon be publishing all the changes and from the date of public notification, it will be about a month before it goes into effect. This is the first time in years this has been increased.

“We got with the police chief and went over various fines and voted to increase each one,” said Mayor Shawn Enloe.

Council members also reviewed paperwork submitted by the attorney about changes to Velma’s town drug testing policy. Employees or volunteers who use the town’s equipment are subject to drug testing.

What the council discussed for the new policy was what would warrant a drug test and what would be the random drug testing policy throughout the year.

“We looked at the documents and made changes to them to make them better fit Velma,” said Enloe. “We’ll show them to the attorney and we get the stamp of approval, we’ll adopt the policy.”

Before the policy goes into effect, employees and volunteers will be able to look it over. Once they have viewed it, the policy will go into effect after 10 days. Enloe said they are expecting the new drug testing policy to be adopted next month.

  • A special day for memories

Father’s Day is a special occasion in my life. Thoughts of my dad surface easily. And lessons he taught seem to be entrenched in the lives of our three sons even though he died before their births.
