School board to hear from district auditor

DUNCAN —

The Duncan Board of Education will be meeting with the school district’s auditor tonight as part of the monthly school board meeting.
Kerry Patten will present the 2011-12 completed audit report to the board of education. The presentation will be followed by a vote to either approve or reject the audit as presented.
In years past, the auditor has talked to the school board about things the district should be paying attention to and other concerns.
Another item involving the district’s auditor regards the appointment of school district auditor for the 2012-13 school year. That audit will be presented next year.
Other items:
  • The school board may accept two resignations and possibly hire three employees. Duncan High School teacher Pam Carter with eight years of service to Duncan Public Schools and Plato kindergarten teacher Susan Evans with 20 years of service to DPS are set to retire, effective May 30. Before they can retire, the school board has to officially accept their resignations. Additionally, the board may hire three employees on support employee contracts. The jobs to be filled include two reading sufficiency teacher assistants (one at Horace Mann and one at Plato), and a cafeteria server/helper at Horace Mann. The school board could enter into an executive session to discuss the items pertaining to employee hiring and resigning.
  • The school board will discuss opening formal negotiations with Duncan Education Support Personnel of Oklahoma (DESPO) support staff for the 2013-14 school year and the Association of Duncan Educators of Oklahoma for the 2013-14 school year.

  • The board could give permission for the DHS Band to hold a fundraiser to take a trip to Orlando, Fla.

  • Is it ‘coincidence’ the OCE has no teeth?

Since I spend most of my working hours in offices in Duncan and Waurika, it’s nice both communities now have recycling programs so I can deposit the sticky notes that serve as my memory.
