DUNCAN —
While most other Main Streets across the state will have a general theme to their promotions, Main Street Duncan will have an upcoming event to showcase at the State Capitol next week.
“Main Street Day at the Capitol is a wonderful way for local communities to do a bit of bragging on themselves,” said Linda Barnett, director of the Oklahoma Main Street Center. “Each Main Street community has a unique story to tell about their downtowns and how the program has helped their area.”
Main Street Day at the Capitol is set for Thursday, March 28 and will feature downtown economic development revitalization. At last count, there were about 23 of the 39 Oklahoma Main Streets signed up to attend the event and all will be doing their best to attract potential visitors.
“Our table is going to be specifically promoting the car show” said Tammy Johnson, director of Main Street Duncan. “Main Street Day at the Capitol is at the perfect time to get to invite them to it.”
The Crusin’ the Chisholm Trail Car Show is an annual event that will take place April 19-20. From T-shirts to small cars and Frisbees that were donated by O’Reilly Auto Parts, Johnson and Main Street board member Jeannie Bowden will be doing their best to draw attention to Duncan.
“We’re excited and we’re going to try to get people to come to the car show and to Duncan,” Johnson said. “It’s going to be a long day, but a good day.”
Not only will the Main Streets get to tote their qualities, but the event will allow them some time to see what is going on in other cities and to see some of the state politicians.
“The senators always come and we get to visit with them,” said Johnson.
“I haven’t met Corey Brooks yet, so I’m going to be looking for him, Don Barrington, and Dennis Johnson. And even though Anthony Sykes isn’t here anymore, he still loves Duncan and he always comes down to talk to us.”
