DUNCAN —
Over 4,000 bread items will be distributed, when Teen Round-Up host a bread giveaway beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in the parking Lot of Ace Hardware at Elk Plaza.
The baked goods will be distributed to families on limited incomes, single-parent homes, the elderly or families facing a financial crisis. There will be bread, pastries and more.
In addition, Teen Round-up recently received a line of high-quality clothing from Broadway Babies in Elk City. Some of the infant-sized clothing will be distributed at the bread giveaway, in sizes 0-9 months only. The child must be present to receive clothing.
This is part of a program in which Teen Round-Up will give away food items and bread on the last Wednesday of each month.
Directors Kim and Roxanne Kerley of Teen Round-Up have teamed up with several other agencies to bring supplies to families in need who live in the Duncan community.
The program began over eight years ago, starting as a small outreach that has grown into a much larger endeavor. Assistance from other organizations partnering with Teen Round-Up has made it possible for hundreds of residents to acquire food and household items.
“Just talking to some of the single moms or dads in the bread line lets me know that there is a great need to get the bread, food and clothing into the hands of families with several children who are facing financial crisis,” Roxanne Kerley said.
“I was a single mom with small children and I know how a mother feels when she doesn’t have enough food or clothing for her little children.
“Teen Round-Up will continue this outreach every month, as we get the supplies to distribute.”

Commissioners discuss temporary fix to courthouse air conditioning issues
The Board of Stephens County Commissioners held an emergency meeting Thursday to find a temporary solution for cooling off the courthouse, until a new system can be installed. Commissioners approved a temporary solution from Allied Services in Ardmore and will rent an air conditioning unit for $10,000 for the first month and $7,000 for the second month. The commissioners estimate it will take about two months for any company to get a new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system in stock.

Is it ‘coincidence’ the OCE has no teeth?
Since I spend most of my working hours in offices in Duncan and Waurika, it’s nice both communities now have recycling programs so I can deposit the sticky notes that serve as my memory.
