Stephens County District 2 bridges are inspected. All that remains is the small matter of payment.
During Monday’s regular meeting, the Board of Stephens County Commissioners approved an invoice for bridge inspections as conducted by Cobb Engineering Co. The cost of the bridge inspection service was $32,653.73.
This is the second bridge inspection invoice the commissioners have approved in the past week. In the Oct. 15 regular meeting, the commissioners approved an invoice for bridge inspection service for District 1. That invoice was for $19,519.83.
Bridge inspection invoices have previously for District 1 and District 3 prior to Monday’s meeting. The District 3 invoice was received Friday, which is why that invoice wasn’t approved until Monday.
Other items:
n The board approved hiring Kathy Shorter as a full-time employee. Shorter will be the Stephens County Fair Board secretary and a Stephens County Fair & Expo Center employee.
She is slated to start work Nov. 1. Shorter was recommended to the commissioners by Max Gallaway, OSU Extension Office director.
n The commissioners approved and signed one county utility permit.
Although this is a weekly item, the commissioners don’t always receive utility permits to approve.
This was the first utility permit the board had received since the Oct. 9 regular meeting. At that time, there were numerous utility permits needing to be approved.
n The commissioners approved the payment of any purchase orders and the issuance of blanket purchase orders. This item is approved weekly.
n The board also approved the minutes of the previous meeting. The last meeting was Oct. 15.

Commissioners discuss temporary fix to courthouse air conditioning issues
The Board of Stephens County Commissioners held an emergency meeting Thursday to find a temporary solution for cooling off the courthouse, until a new system can be installed. Commissioners approved a temporary solution from Allied Services in Ardmore and will rent an air conditioning unit for $10,000 for the first month and $7,000 for the second month. The commissioners estimate it will take about two months for any company to get a new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system in stock.
