DUNCAN —
Sentencing for Timothy David Maher is set for 1:30 p.m. today at Stephens County District Court, who was found guilty in April, of manslaughter in the first degree and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
A jury has recommended 45 years for the manslaughter charge in the death of Maurice Wade.
Wade was shot and killed Jan. 7, 2011, at Maher’s residence, after the pair had a verbal dispute, according to testimony presented during the trial by Maher’s defense attorney.
Maher, 27, was charged Jan. 10, 2011, with murder in the first degree and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
The crime occurred at Maher’s home, 5602 S. Goodrich Road (Marlow) in rural Stephens County.
A jury returned the verdict on April 27 after hearing four days of evidence and testimony.
The jury recommended 45 years and a fine of $10,000 on the manslaughter charge. On the weapons charge, the jury gave a recommendation of two years and a fine of $1,000.
Evidence at the trial showed Wade was shot 20 times, with 15 of the bullets entering and exiting his body, and five bullet fragments recovered from his body.
Three of the shots were deemed fatal, while others could have been defensive wounds.
The shotgun was not used in the crime, but was nearby where Wade’s body was found, after Maher called the county dispatch services to report the shooting.

The Board of Stephens County Commissioners held an emergency meeting Thursday to find a temporary solution for cooling off the courthouse, until a new system can be installed. Commissioners approved a temporary solution from Allied Services in Ardmore and will rent an air conditioning unit for $10,000 for the first month and $7,000 for the second month. The commissioners estimate it will take about two months for any company to get a new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system in stock.
