DUNCAN —
Around 10 a.m., Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, who is a candidate for Oklahoma governor, arrived at First United Methodist Church in Duncan to cast her ballot for today’s General Election. She was the 163rd person to vote at Precinct No. 3.
She first stopped in at the annual Kiwanis Pancake Day at the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center.
Askins said getting to vote in this election has been a moment she’s waited a long time for. And voting in the election is a moment that will stay with her.
“It was really exciting getting to cast that vote,” Askins said.
Several Askins supporters were at her precinct when she arrived. Among her supporters were her Southwestern Oklahoma field representative, Julie Cole, and Duncan residents Rick and Carolyn Rodgers, who had just finished casting their own votes.
“The support has been really cool, really overwhelming,” Askins said.
The election polls close at 7 p.m. today. After all precinct results are in, Askins will find out if she is the new governor for the state.
Askins’ watch party tonight is at the Crowne Plaza in Oklahoma City. She said she expects a long night of waiting for results.
“My races tend to be long vote counts,” Askins said.
