Sooners Daily: As coaches come and go, Stoops offers stability

OKLAHOMA CITY — The announcement on Saturday that Tommy Tuberville was leaving Texas Tech to become Cincinnati's next head coach offered a vivid reminder of how stable Oklahoma's coaching situation has been the last 14 seasons.

Texas, which hired Mack Brown a year before Bob Stoops arrived in Norman, is the only school in the Big 12 with a longer tenured coach.

Of other seven schools that were part of the original Big 12 all have had at least three head coaches since the 1999 season. Here's the list.

Baylor: Kevin Steele (1999-2002), Guy Morriss (2003-07), Art Briles (2008-present)

Kansas: Terry Allen (1997-2001), Mark Mangino (2002-09), Turner Gill (2010-11), Charlie Weis (2012-present)

Kansas State: Bill Snyder (1989-2005), Ron Prince (2006-08), Bill Snyder (2009-present)

Oklahoma State: Bob Simmons (1995-2000), Les Miles (2001-04), Mike Gundy (2005-present)

Texas Tech: Spike Dykes (1986-1999), Mike Leach (2000-09), Tommy Tuberville (2010-12)
