Davis a Bengal again

CINCINNATI — Bryce Davis’ hasn’t suited up for a single regular season NFL game, but his professional career has already had plenty of twists.

The former Duncan High School and University of Central Oklahoma standout was picked up by the Bengals on Nov. 27, rejoining the team’s practice squad nearly three months after being released from it.

Davis, a tight end/long snapper, didn’t have a whole lot of hype surrounding him coming out of UCO, but that didn’t stop Cincinnati from scooping him up as an undrafted free agent.

The speedy 6-foot-3, 245-pounder made it through rookie minicamp, organized team activities and then the team’s training camp. He saw action in preseason games and made a pair of catches while playing tight end. Then, on the day when rosters were finalized, Davis was cut.

Shortly there after, he got some good news: he had a spot on the Bengals’ practice squad. But on Sept. 4, less than a week after joining the practice squad, Davis got bumped once again, to make room for a more veteran player that would be joining the practice squad.

Davis’ NFL shot, it appeared, had gone out the window. For many, there is only one shot at football’s biggest stage. Davis, though, is getting another crack at it.

Just five days after Thanksgiving, Davis got something any football player would be thankful for, an NFL contract, as and offensive tackle Dan Knapp were named to the practice squad, which released center Scott Wedige and linebacker Ben Jacobs.
