DUNCAN —
Normally in swimming, the only time one-on-one happens is during an event.
But, on Friday one-on-one will have to do with the teams.
Duncan will welcome arch-rival Altus to the Simmons Center for a two-team dual with events starting at 4 p.m.
“Everyone has been improving and you can see it in their times and in practice as well,” Duncan coach Andrew Bowers said. “We went to Altus earlier in the year and they have a lot of kids out. They have the numbers we don’t have and always compete well. I think we can pick up on the work ethic they have because we want to have as much tradition as they have.”
Over the past couple of weeks, the DHS swim team has been honing its skills through meets at Chickasha and Rose State College, something Bowers says has made the kids appreciate swimming at home more than usual.
“It makes them realize the facilities they have and appreciate them more,” he said. “Our kids know how the water acts here (Simmons Center) and that gives them a little bit of an advantage in the pool.”
Charles Espinola, Brennan DeHart, Davon and Damon Demar and the rest of the Demons will look to improve on an already successful season in the water for DHS.
“Altus always does very well and has a lot of tradition,” DeHart said. “Having just them here drives us to be better at all of our events, because we want to compete with them. We’ve all been battling through sickness, but hopefully we’ll be ready to go on Friday.”
For the Lady Demons, Leah Kafter, Jill Baker along with Savanna Swor will also look to bring in strong times on Friday.

36th Annual Blowout starts Friday morning
Duncan’s largest golf tournament of the year will tee off Friday when the 36th Annual Blowout Tournament begins at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club.
The tournament will include a field of 256 golfers, making up 128 teams. -
