Lady Donkeys fall to Verden in first game of Minco Tournament

DUNCAN — For the Bray-Doyle Lady Donkeys and first year head coach Frank Moser, the wait continues for win number one.

Monday night saw B-D travel to Minco for the first round of the Minco Tournament, where the Lady Tigers of Verden provided the opposition.

A slow first quarter which saw BDHS outscored 16-8, led to more struggles as the Lady Tigers came away with a 46-31 victory.

“We came out flat at the start of the game,” B-D coach Frank Moser said. “Verden outscored us 16-8 in the first quarter and it just went on from there. I don’t know what the deal was with us. Foul trouble hurt us again as well in the game.”

There was reason to be hopeful as the Lady Donkeys cut the lead to 28-21 at halftime, but a 10-point second half ensured Bray-Doyle remained winless on the season.

“We were able to weather the storm in the first half,” Moser said. “But, things didn’t get better for us in the second half for us.”

Morgan Kovar and Ashlee Kelly led the scoring on the evening with eight points each. Abbie Lumbert scored four points in the game.

Friday night will see the Lady Donkeys face off with Geary at 7 p.m. from Minco.

“We’re going to be working on shooting and our defense over the next couple of days,” Moser said. “Right now it’s a confidence thing for us and we just need to fix some things so we can get better.”
