DUNCAN —
About two weeks after college basketball programs debuted in front of their fans during various “midnight madness” events, Duncan High School faithful will get a similar opportunity.
Duncan’s gymnasium doors will open Tuesday evening for the Fourth Annual Red-White Knight, giving fans their first glimpse at the 2012-2013 boys’ and girls’ teams, as well as a chance to win a slew of prizes.
“We try to make it like midnight madness for Duncan,” said Duncan Tip-In Club representative Barbara Braught. “And we have a lot of games and prizes.”
The free event begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Everyone who attends can drop their name in a bucket, giving them a chance to win a wide variety of door prizes or to participate in of the four games for fans during the event.
This season’s players will be introduced and the teams will have intrasquad scrimmages. Scattered throughout the evening will be drawings and the four different games: A basketball relay race, basketball musical chairs (once the music stops, make a layup and don’t be the last to make it back to the chairs in the center of the court), a basketball toss (partners toss mini balls into a bucket on their teammates head) and knock-out dribble (keep your dribble alive inside the zone, while knocking the ball away from competitors).
At the end of the evening, there will be a grand prize drawing for a Beats by Dre earbuds (retail value $100) and a $150 gift card to Sonic.
“(The event) is pretty much on par with what we have done the last three years, except the grand prize is bigger because of the Sonic gift card,” Braught said.
Also on hand to entertain fans will be Duncan’s pep band, cheerleaders and the palm squad.
The festivities will run until around 8:30 p.m., Braught said.
