LAWTON — Lady Demons head coach Robert Cowan said that his team has been able to keep their bats going since returning from their six-game tournament at Fort Collins, Colo. He also said he was pleased he  that the team continued to swing well when the Lady Demons shut out Lawton Eisenhower 10-2 Tuesday night.

“We hit the ball really well while we were in Colorado,” Cowan said. “I am just glad that continued tonight (Tuesday). We are getting better at the plate and being more patient.”

Senior pitcher Tanya Whaley picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Demons Tuesday night, with seven strikeouts, one walk and four hits with two earned runs.

“Tanya has been pitching well for us lately,” Cowan said. “She and Autumn (Parker) pitched for us in Colorado and each did really well. Tanya started to struggle in some of the later games, but I think she just started to get tired from pitching so much at Colorado.”

Tuesday night, the Lady Demons scored two runs in the first inning, five runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth.

Mackenzie Gibbs went 2-for-2 at the plate with a three-run double in the third inning.

“Our one through four holes, Tanya (Whaley),  Jacobi (Clark), Mackenzie and Courtney (Moore), having been hitting really well lately,” Cowan said. “They are probably hitting around .400 at the plate and have been giving us that spark that we need.”

On the defensive side of the ball, Cowan said that his team has been working hard and trying to keep the errors down to a minimum.

“Ashlee Perkins did a really good job for us in Colorado both at the plate and in the field at third base,” Cowan said. “Tonight (Tuesday) we had one error at second base and we have tried to keep the errors down. While in Colorado, we lost three of our six games, but none of the losses were over two runs.”

During the trip to Fort Collins, the Lady Demons lost to Ft. Collins High School 2-1 and Northglen High School 7-6 and 9-7. They picked up wins against Discovery Canyon High School 14-3, Pine Creek 10-2 and Fort Collins 5-3.

The Lady Demons are 10-11 after Tuesday and will travel to Oklahoma City Thursday to play Northwest Classen.
