Demons win home cross country meet

DUNCAN — The Duncan Demons have only run at Halliburton Park one time this cross country season, but on Saturday, they sure made it seem like they had some extra special home field advantage over the rest of the competition.

The Duncan boys took home first place at the Duncan Invitational on Saturday, holding off a difficult field in the process.

“This was a lot of the same schools that were at Marlow and w finished fifth there,” Duncan coach Todd Ledford said. “Our guys just ran real well and turned in good times.”

Walker Clampitt cruised to the individual title, crossing the finish line of the 5K race in 16 minutes, 45.54 seconds. He was 26 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Mason Bivens placed fourth for Duncan (17:45.50), while Shawn Moore was 13th (18:35.94) and Taber Kaspereit also made the top 20, finishing 19th (19:08.73).

Ty Hobbs placed 10th for Velma-Alma (18:24.06), which didn’t post a team score.

The Duncan girls finished sixth as a team, while Cache took the title.

Maci Legaly was the Lady Demons’ top finisher, placing 11th in the 2-mile race in a time of 13:46.94.
