DUNCAN —
For at least one night this week, it’s going to be Duncan vs. Stephens County.
Thursday night at Halliburton Stadium will see the culmination of the 2012 Stephens County Youth Football season, as 6th graders from around the league will converge for one more game against one another.
All kids from Duncan area schools will comprise one team, while the players from Marlow and Comanche will make up the other team.
“This is always a big game for everyone involved,” SCYFA Coordinator Stan Morris said. “We like to consider this a celebration of the kids going into seventh grade and hopefully see them continue being successful at football and other activities. My kids look forward to this game all season long, and they love being able to play at Halliburton because it’s a much bigger field than the one we play on at Abe Raizen.”
In addition to multiple awards being handed out at the end of the game, two separate MVP awards will be decided as well. The winners from each team will be voted upon by the opposing coaches.
Morris added this season as a whole has been one of the most successful he’s seen for youth football in Stephens County.
“This was by far the most competitive year we have ever had in the fifth and sixth grade division,” he said. “Every team had at least one loss. There really wasn’t anyway to tell who was going to pull away until the playoffs happened. Now, with our third and fourth graders, Marlow was just a little more polished than everyone else and it showed out on the field.”
