For the past two weeks, some area schools have dipped their toe into the pool of winter sports with a couple of games securely under the belt. This week, everyone will get involved.
Area basketball and wrestling teams will kick off the season this week with the majority of teams seeing action on Tuesday. The Mikel Davison and Andrew McClung eras will begin at Duncan High School when the Demons host Elgin Tuesday. The Lady Demons were swept by Elgin last season while the boys’ team returned the favor. Duncan will also take part in the Cache Festival this weekend, facing Newcastle on Friday and Lawton Eisenhower on Saturday.
Kevin Kelly will wait until Thursday to get in his first match as head wrestling coach when Duncan travels to Lawton Eisenhower. For more information on Duncan games and matches, log onto duncanbanner.com and take in the coach’s shows on multimedia.
The Duncan swimming team will also be busy this week, with a meet in Lawton today and a trip to Oklahoma City for a meet on Saturday.
In area basketball, all area schools will be on the road Tuesday. Marlow will travel to Lone Grove and Comanche will travel to Frederick. Velma-Alma will also see its first action of the year, traveling to Healdton Tuesday.
The Bray-Doyle basketball teams will look to improve to 3-0 on the year at Wilson while Central High will be at Sterling and Empire will be at Grandfield.
In wrestling action, Marlow will host Lawton High Tuesday night and Comanche will host Elgin and Vernon on the same night.
During the weekend, area basketball fans will not have to travel far. Marlow will host Elgin Friday night and Plainview on Saturday night. Bray-Doyle will travel to Comanche on Friday night and will turn around with a home game against Apache Saturday.
Empire will also be at home Friday when it hosts Elmore City while Ryan will travel to Waurika. Velma-Alma will be on the road when it takes on Rush Springs Friday and Central High will travel to Ninnekah.
