COMANCHE — The Comanche football team will end its season on the road tonight when it travels to Bridge Creek. The Bobcats are 8-1 on the season and have wrapped up the district championship while Comanche is 4-5 on the season with no future beyond Friday night.
“Even though there are games after us, you want to get that last win that you play,” Comanche Brent Clark said. “If we could beat a team like this, it would be huge for us.”
In order to beat Bridge Creek, Comanche will have to stop one of the top offenses in Class 2A. Rustin Spangler is one of the top passers in the state with 2,155 yards and 22 touchdowns compared to three interceptions.
Spangler’s favorite target is Caden Locke, who had 1,053 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns.
“The bad part is that we have seen four game films and they have only given up one sack,” Clark said. “The thing is they average 170 yards rushing a game. You have to try and make them one-dimensional. That is kind of the game plan.”
Comanche will play its second game for pride after getting eliminated from the playoffs in Week 8. The Indians responded well to competing without a playoff berth on the line in Week 9, falling 21-13 to Lindsay, the second place team in the district.
“It’s frustrating being consolation all the time but I was pleased with the way we got after them,” Clark said. “I’ve been proud of their effort all year. It was another game where we had a chance and let them get away.”
Central High at Ryan
CENTRAL HIGH — The season is winding down for Central High as it will be on the road this week to take on Ryan.
The Cowboys have known nothing but success this season, rolling out to a 9-0 record and capturing the District B-2 title with a win over Allen in Week 9. The win boosted Ryan to No. 2 in the state.
Waiting in the tall grass if Central High, looking to finish the season on a strong note. The Bronchos are much improved this season. Despite a 3-6 record, Central High has made a habit of playing more competitive and avoiding run-rule losses that defined the 2008 season.
Despite having nothing but pride on the line, Central High has gone about its work this week looking forward to the challenge of playing Ryan.
“It’s been really good,” Central High coach Glennis Ring said. “You would think the kids would be a down a little. They realize we have made some strides. We are not satisfied as a unit and I think we are better than our record.”
Putting four quarters together has been the biggest culprit to Central High’s success this season and a Week 9 loss to Caddo was an extension of those frustrations. A second quarter proved to be decisive for Caddo in picking up the win.
“Playing four quarters is the thing anytime you are playing quality teams,” Ring said. “Ryan has some good players but we’re not scared of them. The cards are going to fly the way that they are going to fly. We are not going down there to get whipped.
“I like our kids’ attitude right now and we are going to play as hard as we can.”
Elmore City at Bray-Doyle
BRAY — For Bray-Doyle, Week 10 represents the line it can’t step backwards over if it is going to pick up a win this season.
The Donkeys are 0-9 on the season and will face an Elmore City-Pernell team that had its heart ripped out in a 21-20 loss to Healdton to eliminate it from the playoff chase last week.
Bray-Doyle was hopeful at the beginning of the week that quarterback Cody Douthit would be able to return from an injury that kept him out of the loss to Maysville last week.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at Bray-Doyle.
