Lady Falcons speed past Lady Outlaws

MARLOW — The Marlow Lady Outlaws were reminded of two universal truths in sports Friday night: speed kills and it’s never easy to take out a defending state champion.

Falling victim No. 3 Millwood’s full court press, three-point shooting and transition offense, the Lady Outlaws (14-9) fell 60-39 to the Lady Falcons (18-3) in the first round of regionals.

Against one of the fastest teams in the state, Marlow just couldn’t keep up.

“Offensively, every turnover was a two on one for them. They got every loose ball,” Marlow coach Kirk Harris said. “I’d like another shot at them. It might take 100 times to beat them, but I think we could.

Marlow trailed by just four after the first quarter, but a 21-9 stretch in the second gave Millwood some breathing room. The Lady Falcons never looked back.

“I thought in the halfcourt defense we we fairly successful, and we competed on the boards,” Harris said. “You can’t simulate their kind of speed in practice.

Ashley O’Dell made her presence felt with a team high 14 points and six rebounds.
