It might have taken a little extra effort, but the Comanche Indians got the job done Thursday afternoon against Jones at Washington High School.
After being down 28-24 at halftime, the Indians fought back in the second half and eventually managed to earn a 63-56 victory over the Longhorns (0-20) in overtime.
“We came out slow but had some big plays in the fourth,” Comanche coach Nick Price said. “Grant Jones hit a three pointer to put us up by one in overtime and that was huge. Garrett Morrow and Braden Ledford both hit clutch free throws in overtime to really seal the game for us.”
Comanche managed to get within four points at the end of the third at 43-39, before tying the game at 54-54 to send it into overtime.
In the extra session, the Indians (11-14) went on a 9-2 run to advance to the second round of regionals this afternoon against either Stroud or Prague at 3 p.m. from Washington High School.
“I told the guys after the game it doesn’t matter the score, we gave enough effort to win,” Price said. “We’re playing again on Friday and that’s what matters.”
Braden Ledford led the Indians with 21 points followed by Garrett Morrow with 17 points. Grant Jones added 10 points in the game, with Zach Young scoring seven points. Dalton Smith and Mason Taylor each put in four points.

DALE 75 CENTRAL HIGH 61
Against the No. 9 Dale Pirates Thursday afternoon, the Central High Bronchos ran into a brick wall.
CHHS fought with all its might, but the Pirates had too much firepower which resulted in a 75-61 victory.
“Dale was just athletic at every position,” Central High coach John Nease said. “They deserve a lot of credit for how they played. Our guys though never gave up and played as hard as they could. We ran into some trouble in the second half and that’s where the game got away from us a little bit.”
Going into the halftime break, the Bronchos were down 36-29 after being outscored 16-12 in the first quarter.
Dale flexed its offensive muscle in the third as the Pirates outscored the Bronchos 23-13, before Central High fought back to win the fourth quarter 19-16.
Central High finishes its season with an overall record of 13-10, while Dale improves to 22-5 on the season.
“We have nothing to hang our heads about because of everything we accomplished this year,” Nease said. “I’m so proud of this group and I’m going to really miss our seniors. Class 2A is a much different world when it comes to the playoffs, so we’re going to work harder to be better next year.”
Dallin Ferrin led the Bronchos with 21 points, followed by Kevin Harris with 19 points. John Repp added nine points, with Matthew Quisenberry putting in six points.
Connor Albiston scored four points with Zarek Hickman contributing two points.
