Marlow goes 1-1 on first day of softball regional

DUNCAN — This certainly wasn’t the way the Marlow Lady Outlaws were looking to start their run to the state softball tournament.

A trio of errors allowed for three unearned runs in  their region tournament opener, and Marlow fell to Lindsay, 3-2.

The loss made the road to the state tournament a difficult one, with the Lady Outlaws needing to win four straight to punch their ticket.

By Monday night, they had one down and three to go.

Following their hard-to-swallow loss, the Lady Outlaws bounced back to beat Mount Saint Mary, 10-1.

“We swung the bats a little better, especially at the top of the lineup,” Marlow coach Brian Miller said. “We’ve got to get the bottom half hitting better if we are going to make it through tomorrow.”

The Lady Outlaws won’t have to wait long to amend their opening-round loss as they rematch Lindsay at noon today, with the loser going home and the winner going on to face Washington in search of back-to-back wins for a state berth.

Marlow never led against Lindsay on Monday, giving up two unearned runs early before Abby Warren tied the game with a two-run double to left field.

Miscommunication on a bunt allowed Lindsay to score one more in the top of the seventh for the win.
