The Comanche Indians battled through tough games, injuries and plain old bad luck throughout the season, fighting their way into the playoffs.
For their efforts they were given a road matchup with the No. 2 team in Class 2A.
Any hopes of an upset were put to bed with an early onslaught by Davis, which ended Comanche’s season with a 59-14 victory.
“We had a huge task in front of us,” Comanche coach Steve Justus said. “You won’t find many team as physical as Davis. They had 19 seniors on their roster and man are they tough.”
Senior quarterback Kale Reed gave the Indians something to be excited about as he returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. The score, though, did nothing to hold back Davis which put the game well out of reach before Alex Tuttle ran in Comanche’s only other touchdown with about 3 minutes left in the game.
“With some of our injuries, we’re just not the biggest across the font,” Justus said. “When we come across a team with defensive kids that are 260 to 270 ... it’s hard to get a good push.”
The Indians finish the season 5-6, reaching the playoffs for the second straight season.
“It’s easy to display character when things go your way,” Justus said. “This team had some tough things to overcome but they fought and we made the playoffs for the second straight year, and that’s not easy to do.”
