Racial slur brings negative moment to all-star game

DUNCAN — During halftime of the SCYFA All-Area game Thursday night, two parents rushed onto the football field, alleging a player had used a racial slur against their son.

The player in question was an African-American on Team Duncan.

The parents approached both Duncan’s and the County team’s coaching staff, as well as officials, raising their concern of the alleged abuse.

Both parents returned to the stands following the conversation with officials.

County Team coach David O’Neil, of Marlow, said he was made aware of the incident and addressed it with his team, shortly after being notified of the occurrence.

“We do not condone any kind of activity of this nature,” O’Neil said. “I’ve been coaching this for a long time and I’ve never seen or heard anything like this.”

It is unknown at this time if any individual players will be punished for the incident.
