Former Duncan wrestler dies on Christmas day

DUNCAN — Justin Dill was a book whose cover was not to be judged.

The 2006 Duncan High School graduate was small in stature but is being remembered for his toughness and tenacity. Dill, who helped lead Duncan to three straight State runner-up finishes in wrestling, died on Christmas day at the age of 25.

“Every time I think of him, I think about how tough he was,” said Duncan wrestling coach Kevin Kelly. “He was strong for his size, fast, real quick, just a real good athlete. He wanted to be good and he worked hard.”

Dill was the Class 5A state runner-up at 103 pounds in 2005, as a junior. He was a member of the 2004, 2005 and 2006 teams, which all finished as state runner-ups.

His brother, Marco Dill, won a state title at 125 pounds in 2005, was third in 2004 and fourth in 2003.

Dill was rushed to a hospital in Oklahoma City for brain-related emergency and died at the hospital.

By Christmas afternoon, news had spread around town.

“I had three or four people text me on Christmas and ask if I had heard about it,” Kelly said.

Dill’s Facebook page was quickly flooded with messages of remembrance, from emotional friends expressing how much they loved and will miss him.

Funeral services are to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan.
