DMS harriers start on fast track

LAWTON — The Duncan Middle School cross country teams have opened the season in grand fashion. The Demons placed in the top three at two recent meets while the Lady Demons placed in the top five at both.

On Aug. 28 at a meet at Cameron, the Demons took second place, one point behind Elgin. Cameron officials “mis-timed” several times for all teams, but a decision was made to keep the results as originally posted.

Mason Bivens finished in first place for the Demons at Cameron with a time of 5:31. Donovan Palmer was also in the top five with a time of 6:02. Wyatt Adams was next for Duncan, finishing in a time of 6:35 for 13th place. Dylan Trusley and Marlin Blanchard placed in the top 50 with Trusley coming in 26th and Blanchard coming in 48th.

Mattie Bivens was the top Lady Demon finisher at Cameron. She posted a time of 6:42 for second place overall. Melinda Stubblefield finished 14th in a time of 7:32 and Hannah Scott was 16th at 7:38. The Lady Demons finished third overall in the meet.

In a meet at Elgin, the Demons finished third with the Lady Demons taking fifth.

Mason Bivens took home second individually with a time of 5:52. Orlando Martinez was 11th at 6:50 and Palmer rounded out the Demons in the top 20 at 16th with a time of 6:59. Adams finished 23rd and Trusley finished 29th.

Mattie Bivens finished third for the Lady Demons with a time of 7:13. Stubblefield was 23rd at 7:54 and Scott rounded out the top 30 with a time of 8:13, good for 28th place.
