The Duncan Banner
In their final meet of 2012, the Duncan swim team wanted to make sure they showed improvement before heading into the Christmas break Tuesday afternoon.
A triangular meet with Harrah and Mustang proved to be just the spark each of the swimmers needed as times dropped across the board.
However, things got off to a rough start as the Duncan boys relay team of Mason Lang, Damon Demar, Charles Espinola and Brennan DeHart were forced to settle for second in the boys 200 meter medley relay event, with a time of 2:08.59 behind Harrah’s winning time of 2:06.22.
But, things picked up in a fast way when Espinola showcased more of his much talked about speed as he claimed first in the boys 200 meter individual medley event with a time of 2:31.70, more than four seconds ahead of Harrah’s Arthur Miranda who finished second at 2:36.41.
Marlow’s Brittany Boles claimed fifth overall in the girls 50 meter freestyle event clocking in at 34.48, with Duncan’s Hannah Looney finishing in ninth, but dropping four seconds off her qualifying time with a finish of 35.69.
Damon Demar put in a strong performance in the boys 50 meter freestyle, finishing first with a time of 27.38, just ahead of second place finisher Andrew Chapman from Harrah who clocked in at 27.70. DeHart also finished in the top five overall, earning fourth place with a time of 28.20.
In the boys 100 meter butterfly, there was no stopping Espinola from once again finishing in first, as he won by more than two seconds with a time of 1:07.13, shaving off more than two seconds from his original qualifying time entering the event.
On the girls side, Looney also smashed her original qualifying time in the 100 meter freestyle event, finishing in fifth overall with a time of 1:23.80, but improving from her previous time of 1:25.47.
Jimmy Gilbreth and Davon Demar both improved their qualifying times in the boys 100 meter freestyle event as they claimed fifth and sixth respectively. Each of the Duncan swimmers knocked off more than a second and a half of their original qualifying times in the event.
Other notable finishes from the meet include the Duncan boys relay time winning the 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.52, which brushed aside the original qualifying time of 1:50.64.
Boles improved her time in the 100 meter backstroke event, while Lang finished first in the boys 100 meter backstroke event.
Duncan will return to action when the calendar flips over to 2013 as Kingfisher will provide the opposition for a meet on Jan. 8 from the Simmons Center Pool.
