DHS boys finish 10 at state

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Duncan boys turned in their best finish in the history of the program with a 10th place finish at the State Swim Meet. The Demons saved their best for last, setting school records throughout the weekend.

“Everybody swam real good,” Duncan coach Kim Longest said. “You want to swim your best time at state and in every event, we did that. It is all that we can control.”

The boys 200 Medley relay set school records on both days of competition and finished eighth in the “A” finals. Matt Sellers, Austin Bowles, Bryce Sepulvado and Andy Stewart turned in a time of 1:50.85 and qualified eighth on Friday and turned in a 1:49.53 on Saturday.

Clayton Lee, Bowles, Sepulvado and Stewart qualified for the “A” finals in the 200 Free relay and the 400 Free relay. The 400-meter relay finished eighth on the final day and dropped in time but the 200 relay improved on Saturday with a time of 2:39.

“This is the first time that I know of that all three boys relays have been in the “A” finals,” Longest said. “Just about everyone swam personal best times which is what you hope for in this meet.”

In individual events, Bowles set school records in the 100 Breast on both days. He qualified for the finals on Friday with a 1:05.40 and followed with a time of 1:04.80 on Saturday to finish eighth. The senior also qualified for the “A” finals in the 100 Intermediate and finished eighth with a time of 2:19.14.

Stewart qualified for the “B” finals in the 50 Free and finished 11th with a time of 23.99 and Sellers was 15th. Sellers qualified for the “B” finals in the 100 Back and finished 11th.

The girls 200 Free relay team of Renea Plumlee, Rachelle Justus, Brittany Zawicki and Briana Fetterly qualified 14th in the “B” finals with a time of 2:06.78 and made improvement on the final day. The team finished 14th with a time of 2:05.96, their best of the season.
