Bray-Doyle falls short against Blue Devils

BRAY — Ringling’s Taner Richardson was simply on fire in the second quarter Monday night, and Bray-Doyle felt the full force of it.

Five three-point shots swished through the net for the junior as the Blue Devils broke open a 17-12 game to take a commanding lead and eventually win 66-43 at Donkey Gymnasium.

At the 4:20 mark of the second quarter, the Donkeys were starting to find a groove and put the pressure on the Blue Devils, but that’s when Richardson started to take over.

Ringling finished shooting 10-of-21 from outside the arc on the night.

While the junior finished with 21 total points for the contest, it was the impact he had in the second quarter which propelled his team to take a 39-23 advantage going into the halftime break.

B-D never quite recovered from the barrage as the Donkeys couldn’t get any closer than 15 points in the second half.

Ringling opened the game on a 7-0 run as the Blue Devils held an eight point advantage before the Donkeys got on the board at 9-1 with 3:44 left in the first quarter.

At the end of the third quarter, RHS was in firm control with a 53-37 lead over the Donkeys.

One positive on the evening for B-D was they were able to shoot 12-of-17 from the free throw line compared to 3-of-8 for the Blue Devils.

Jesse Bearce put in a solid performance with 18 points on the night for the Donkeys (1-15), with Randy Jackson adding 10 points. Craig Brown put in five points, as Josh Goodrich put in four points. Rodney Hall scored two points in the contest.

Other scorers for Ringling were Landon Lyle with 13 points followed by Tyler Grace with eight points. Taylor Pybas put in seven points, with Dakota Stapleton and Ryan Lester each putting in four points.

Friday night Feb. 8 will see the Donkeys open the Class A playoffs on the campus of Chattanooga High School.

B-D’s first round opponent will be Tipton with tip-off set for 8 p.m.
