Lady Bulldogs win fourth straight

DUNCAN — The Empire Lady Bulldogs came into the season looking to make a statement and garner respect from other teams.

It’s a new year, but the focus remains the same.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up right where they left off before the break and topped Big Pasture, 44-33 on Friday.

“Overall, we had a really balanced attack,” Empire coach Jason Allensworth said. “We did a really good job of sharing the wealth.”

The Lady Bulldogs led only by a point (10-9) after the first quarter and at halftime (20-19), before gradually pulling away in the third and fourth quarters.

Once again Empire’s post players came up big, with seniors Ashlie Atkinson and Alyssa George both posting double-doubles. Atkinson racked up 12 points and 14 rebounds, while George had 11 points and 10 boards. Junior Jessica Carney added seven points and 13 rebounds, while juniors Kaelyn Allensworth and Melaina Yearby each had six points and freshman Sherre Dewey chipped in with two points.

“I was very pleased with the way we rebounded tonight,” Allensworth said. “It was a really good effort.”

The improves Empire to 10-2 on the season and extends the Lady Bulldogs’ win streak to four games.

BOYS

The Empire Bulldogs struggled against a strong Big Pasture squad, falling, 72-34.

The Bulldogs are 3-9 on the season and have dropped four straight.
