DUNCAN —
Bray-Doyle football might be getting another change in the near future, but this one could be for the better.
A board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday to decide if the Donkeys will return to play 8-man football starting after the 2013-14 season.
“I had heard some rumblings about it before it was made known,” B-D coach Don Padgett said. “There’s going to be a vote about it and I’m going to attend the meeting to find out for myself what’s going to happen. We’ll go over a lot of factors that are going to be involved with the decision as well.”
It’s been four years since Bray-Doyle made the jump up to 11-man, and many feel going back down would benefit the Donkeys success in the future.
“As you go down into the 5-6th and 7-8th grades, the numbers are low,” Padgett said. “But, again those things can change over time. You still need a speedy running back to be successful in 8-man football and that’s what we’re trying to develop during the offseason. If we stay 11-man then it’s going to be very difficult because we’ll still be in a district with Ringling, Velma-Alma and Empire along with Rush Springs.”
