Duncan Lady Demon Allison Edwards represented her team in the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Fast-Pitch Softball game June 12 at the University of Oklahoma. Even though Edwards said that she did not do as well as she wanted during the game, she still enjoyed the experience.
“It was a fun experience for me playing with people that I have played against during the season and making new friends,” Edwards said. “I did not do as well as I wanted to hitting wise, but it was still a great experience.”
When asked if the All-State game experience was her top memory as a Lady Demon, Edwards said that it definitely ranked near the top.
“Playing in regionals this past season was a great time,” Edwards said. “Also, playing in a 13-inning state tournament game my sophomore year will be a memory, but this is definitely up there in the top memories.”
Lady Demon softball coach Robert Cowan said that he was proud of Edwards and all she accomplished.
“Allison is one of those girls who has been a good offensive player and a good defensive player,” Cowan said. “She made All-State as a utility player and it is a tribute to what kind of a player and athlete she is.”
Cowan noted that Edwards switched positions at the beginning of the season from center field to playing catcher.
“We lost Sarah Harper to graduation and Allison decided that she wanted to step up and take the position,” Cowan said. “She learned the new position and worked hard at it, and that really showed what kind of player she is.”
Edwards said that along with the many games and All-State experience, she will always remember the times that she had with her teammates and her coach.
“I’m really going to miss my teammates and the friendships that I have made through the years,” Edwards said. “I am also going to miss Coach Cowan ’cause he has been here through everything.”
Even though her high school career is over, Edwards will be continue her softball career at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville.
“I’m going to be playing at Oklahoma Wesleyan and majoring in Biology,” Edwards said. “This the first year that they’re bringing their program back, so I hope to start it off with a bang.”
