CENTRAL HIGH —
Coming off their first and only loss of the season, the Central High Bronchos were out to show their ability to bounce back.
They did just that Friday ... twice.
Central High jumped out to a 36-point lead, took its foot off the gas and allowed the lead to dwindle to 22 points, and then pulled away again on its way to a 57-14 win over Geary in a District B-2 game.
“We let up in the second half and all of the sudden it was 36-14,” Central High coach Darren Lamar said. “We finally got things going and put it away in the fourth quarter.
“But in the first half we played really well,” he added. “We got a lot of things fixed that we were needing to after last week.”
Junior running back Kevin Harris not stayed on his 24 points per game pace, he surpassed it, scoring the first three touchdowns of the game before tacking on a two-point conversion run and one more TD run in the fourth quarter for a total of 26 points.
The win lifted the Bronchos to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in district play. Now, the schedule gets interesting for Central High as it takes on presumed district favorite Fox, followed by playoff contenders Alex, Waurika and Cyril.
“We’ve beat the teams that we’ve needed to beat to this point,” Lamar said. “We could be doing better, but after six weeks we can say we still control our destiny, and that’s pretty good.”
