Lady Outlaws win pair of close games

MARLOW — Just one day after suffering a heartbreaking loss to Cache at home, the Marlow Lady Outlaws found themselves in two very tough games Friday night at the Marlow Softball Festival.

Also in action were the Comanche Lady Indians, and the Waurika Lady Eagles.

MARLOW 1,

PAULS VALLEY 0

In their first game of the evening, the Lady Outlaws found themselves in a very familiar position, a pitchers dual.

PVHS pitcher Kaylie Upton and MHS pitcher Abbey Warren went head to head on the evening, with just one run being scored in the contest.

A sacrifice fly from Gigi Wall to center field in the third inning, scored catcher Kaytlyn Kizarr, which proved to be the game winning run for Marlow.

Warren (2-0) got the win for the Lady Outlaws throwing six shutout innings, allowing just five hits with three walks.

Upton (3-2) was tagged with the loss allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

MARLOW 5, LINDSAY 4

Things were going smoothly for the Lady Outlaws against Lindsay, that was until the top of the sixth inning.

With two outs, LHS batter Hannah Barnes slapped a base hit into right field, scoring two runs which tied the game at 2-2, before subsequently being thrown out at second.

However, the drama wasn’t finished just yet.

After Taylor Smith scored via a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning to give Lindsay a 3-2 lead, her teammate Macy Hatfield then doubled the lead with an RBI single.

But, it was the Lady Outlaws who would have the final say in the game.

With the bases loaded in the bottom half of the inning, sophomore Abbey Warren stepped to the plate and sent a high fly ball to right field.

Upon seeing the ball drop, head coach Brian Miller sent all of his base runners in motion.

After one run scored, Kaytlyn Kizarr tied the game, before Avery Walker slid home to win the game for Marlow 5-4.

“I thought we just needed a base hit to tie the game and keep it going,” Warren said. “We got lucky Lindsay made a bad throw and it turned out good for us. I was hoping Avery (Walker) would get home and it just ended up awesome.”

Warren initially gave Marlow the lead in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to right field, before Walker scored on a past ball to make it 2-0.

Gigi Wall (3-3) got the win in the circle for the Lady Outlaws throwing eight innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Hatfield (5-4) took the loss for the Lady Leopards, also throwing a complete game. She allowed five runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Marlow will be back at home Tuesday afternoon hosting Sterling at 5 p.m.

ELGIN 11, COMANCHE 3

After taking an early 2-0 lead against Elgin, there was hope in the Comanche dugout they could finally enter the win column.

Unfortunately, one bad inning put to rest any chances the Lady Indians had of getting a victory.

An 11-run first inning by the Lady Owls proved to be more than enough for Elgin to claim the 11-3 victory.

After Brianna Robertson drew a one out walk, Taylor Jackson got the Lady Indians on the board with an RBI double.

Laney Ledford helped her own cause by knocking in CHS’ second run of the game with a slow dribbler which made its way through the infield.

But, then the Lady Owls struck fast and furious.

After Katie Jolly scored on a fielding error, Ashton Langford gave Elgin a 3-2 lead with a two-RBI single.

Morgan Stephens and Allissia Phillips then scored on a walk and double steal to make it a 5-2 game.

Jolly then knocked in the Lady Owls fifth run with an RBI single. Ally Short (2), Savannah Godwin, Stephens and Langford all collected RBI to pad the Lady Owls lead.

Hannah Suson gave the Lady Indians a consolation run in the top of the second.

Ledford (0-11) took the loss on the mound for the Lady Indians, throwing four innings of work. She allowed nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Hannah Cummings (1-4) got the win for the Lady Owls, allowing three runs on 10 hits with three walks and one strikeout.

LINDSAY 10, COMANCHE 1

Against the Lady Leopards, Comanche’s luck didn’t change for the better.

Lindsay jumped out to a 5-1 lead, before added four in the second to put the game out of reach and eventually claim a 10-1 win.

“Lindsay is one of the best hitting teams we have seen all year,” Dobbins said. “Laney (Ledford) did a good job, but that’s just a good hitting team. Yes, they (Lindsay) hit the ball, but there were times where we should have made plays.”

Laney Ledford drove in the Lady Indians lone run in the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to make it 5-1.

Ellanee Allyson got the Lady Leopards on the board with an RBI double, before her and Macy Hatfield both scored on a throwing error to make it 3-0.

Allison Smith and Ashlyn Cummings both added RBI doubles to round out the first inning.

Hatfield and Cummings both added RBI doubles in the fourth, while Hannah Barnes and Allyson collected RBI singles. Lindsay added one run in the third inning to finish the scoring.

Ledford (0-12) took the loss in the circle, allowing 15 hits with three strikeouts.

Cummings (1-0) got the win for the Lady Leopards, allowing just one run on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Comanche will be on the road against Marietta on Monday at 5 p.m.

LEXINGTON 5, WAURIKA 4

For the Waurika Lady Eagles, it was same song, fourth verse.

Against Lexington, WHS found itself up 3-2, only to lose the lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Despite tying the contest at 4-4, it wasn’t enough as the Lady Eagles lost their fourth one-run game of the season 5-4.

“I was very proud of the way my team came here and showed up,” Waurika coach Ivy Fitzgerald said. “Lexington was a decent team and we matched up well. Unfortunately this was a game we have faced more than one time. I feel if we keep playing hard, we’ll be able to win games like this later on in the season.”

Megan Wade cut the Lady Bulldogs lead to 2-1 in the top of the second with a solo homer. Kirstin Berthiaume gave the Lady Eagles a 3-2 lead with a two-RBI double down the third base line in the top of the third.

Savannah Matthews got Waurika back into the game after she scored in the top of the fourth on an error to tie proceedings at 4 apiece.

Cassie Bennett and Emily Nere initially put the Lady Bulldogs on top with RBI doubles in the bottom of the first inning.

Ashley Dawson and Alexa Webster gave LHS the lead with RBI singles in the bottom of the third, before Webster won it for the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the fifth.

Karrington Morris (3-6) took the loss for the Lady Eagles, allowing five runs on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

Bennett (3-0) got the win for Lexington, allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

In their second game of the festival, the Lady Eagles found the going tough against the Lady Panthers.

WHS only managed two hits in the contest, as Pauls Valley shutout the Lady Eagles 5-0.

PVHS got on the board through Madeleine Crawford, who scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the second.

Errors also contributed to Kaylie Upton earning a two-run inside the park homer in the bottom of the third, before Jamie Trammell added an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.

Karrington Morris (3-7) took the loss for the Lady Eagles, throwing six innings. She allowed four runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
