DUNCAN —
For most of the seven Stephens County high school football teams, it has been an up-and-down season.
For six of them, it is a playoff season.
Comanche, Marlow and Central High locked up postseason spots on Friday, joining Duncan, Empire and Velma-Alma in the playoffs.
For the Comanche Indians, a win wouldn’t be enough. They had to beat visiting Hinton by at least 15 points to come out on top in a three-way tiebreaker and clinch a playoff spot. It didn’t look good as Comanche trailed by two at the end of the first quarter, but then the flood gates broke open and the Indians charged to a 77-24 victory.
Marlow, meanwhile, should send a thank you card to Mount St. Marys, which picked up its first district win of the season, beating Little Axe, and in doing so, sent the Outlaws into the playoffs.
Central High was going head-to-head with Cyril for the last playoff spot in District B-2 and took out all the suspense with a commanding victory.
Duncan locked up the No. 3 spot in the district — and a game against Bishop McGuinness — as it topped Chickasha.
Velma-Alma assured itself of a home playoff game with a win over Hobart, and Empire beat Bray-Doyle for the No. 3 spot in the district.
