DUNCAN —
Lula Francis Barnett, known as Lou, passed from this life and joined her Heavenly Father at the age of 83, Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. She was at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 29, in the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery, under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Lou was born Nov. 18, 1928, at West Lake, Ark., to George and Edith (Hughes) Pegram. She was one of eight children. On April 8, 1948, she married Bennie Barnett and to this union three children were born.
She and Bennie had lived in Duncan since 1962. She was a member of the VFW Lodge 1192 Ladies Auxiliary and Women of the Moose, and served as a Grey Lady (volunteer) at Lindley Hospital. She was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress, and a devoted wife and mother. Her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Lou is survived by her two daughters, Stefanie Parker and husband Sandy, of Fairfax, and Sharon Bearden and husband David, of Duncan; four grandsons, Blake Bearden and wife Caroline, of Upland, Calif., Seth Bearden and wife Tami, of Newcastle, and Matthew Parker and Mason Parker, both of Fairfax; and two great-grandchildren, Elle and Natalie Bearden, who were the apple of her eye. She is also survived by a brother, Milford Pegram and wife Milly, of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and two sisters, Marvie Newkirk and husband Charles, and Renelda Forga, all of Springdale, Ark.
Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bennie Barnett, who passed away two months ago; her parents; an infant daughter in 1953; four brothers, Bill, Royce, Eldon and Carl Melton Pegram; and two cherished grandchildren, Destiny Bearden and Ben Parker.
Pallbearers will be Stefanie, Matthew and Mason Parker, and Sharon, Blake and Seth Bearden.
We were blessed to have such a loving and caring mother and grandmother. We love you, Mom.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
