NOBLE —
Vicky Lou Southerland, 56, passed from this life into the Eternal Hands of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at her home in Noble, surrounded by her family. Vicky fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past four months.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Duncan City Cemetery with Dr. Bruce McCray of Purcell, Oklahoma officiating and assisted by the Rev. Ronnie Carroll of Marietta.
She grew up in Loco and was born in Duncan, on March 25, 1956, and had lived in Noble for the past nine years. Vicky was the daughter of D.L. (Dwain) and Wanda Rhee (Wheatley) Southerland.
Vicky was a member of the First Baptist Church of Loco, where she was saved and baptized as a child. She presently attended the Baptist Church in Noble.
She was the paternal granddaughter of Lonzo and Esther (Hefley) Southerland, and the maternal granddaughter of W.A. and Sylvia (Harrel) Wheatley.
Vicky loved life, and she loved going to church. She loved to sing, laugh, kid, and joke with people she knew and loved. Even though she never had children of her own, Vicky loved and adored all of her nieces and nephews. Brandon, Katelyn and Madelyn were just like her own children, being with them on a daily basis.
Vicky was a great lover of animals. She also like going shopping and enjoyed the “bling” of jewelry. She enjoyed the family get-togethers and loved entertaining you with her wit and laughter. Vicky enjoyed movies and old westerns.
Survivors include three sisters: her twin, Terry Sue Abbott and husband Rick of Noble, Billie Kaye (Foster) Roberts of Comanche, Judy Ann Lyle and husband Sammy of Wynnewood; her brothers: Darrell Southerland and wife Lori of Cache, and Randy Southerland of Duncan. Vicky is survived by her nieces and her nephews: Kevin Abbott, Kody Abbott and Kasey and Bill Abbott of Noble, Shayna and Chris Sanders of San Antonio, Texas, Dustin and Becca Southerland of Geronimo, Dillion Southerland of Lawton, Dakota Southerland of Cache, Alex Robinson of Cache, Kathryn and Corey Bowen of Lawton, Lesa and Justin Sutton of Ada, Ricky and Pepper Lyle of Wynnewood, Keith and Renee Foster of Midland, Texas, Sharla Howell of Comanche, and Traci and Ed McGill of Duncan. Also surviving are her 28 great-nieces and nephews, her three aunts: Betty Jo (Southerland) Pruitt and husband Jim of Duncan, Ernestine (Wheatley) Ledbetter of Midwest City, and Wilma Wheatley of Austin, Texas. Vicky is also survived a host of cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwain and Wanda Southerland; her paternal grandparents, Lonzo and Esther Southerland; and her maternal grandparents, W.A. and Sylvia Wheatley.
Bearers will be Kenneth Ketchum, Mike Hoggard, Earl Anderson, Norman Anderson, Kody Abbott, Ricky Lyle and Dustin Southerland.
Vicky’s family would like to thank all of her caregivers from Heartland Hospice of Norman and to everyone for the love, prayers and concern shown to her.
