Command Sgt. Maj.Cecil Clifton Wilkins

DUNCAN — June 9, 1925 — Oct. 13, 2012

Command Sgt. Maj. Cecil Clifton Wilkins was born June 9, 1925, at Needmore, W. Va., and passed away Oct. 13, 2012, at Lawton, at the age of 87.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Don Grantham Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Todd Wisdom, with interment to follow at Duncan Cemetery with military honors.

He married Leona Bass on Jan. 23, 1947, and she preceded him in death on June 15, 1987.

Command Sgt. Maj. Wilkins proudly served in the US Army during WW II, Korea and Vietnam, being the recipient of the Purple Heart in Vietnam. After serving his country for 22 years, Cecil work 17 years for the US Postal Service as a supervisor, retiring in 1969.

He enjoyed being around his family. His laugh, wisdom, guidance and unconditional love will be remembered by all who knew him.

Cecil is survived by two step-children: Bobby Dixon of Mustang, and Loretta Ekwall of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren in Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska; a sister, Ester Parker; and two brothers: Earl and Dwight Wilkins all of West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his his wife, Leona; his parents, Jesse James and Gladys May Hulver Wilkins; two sisters: Thelma Jones and Edna Bott; a step-daughter, Lydia Bly; a step-daughter-in-law, Lola Dixon; and two grandchildren: Bobby Dixon Jr. and Debra Yanda.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Lawton.

    Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Dow Pannell officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from a.m. to service time Thursday.

    Troy was born May 10, 1951, in Duncan, to Troy E. and Jeanette Rose Fowler Wilson. Troy has lived in Edmond, for the last nine years. He was a Navy Veteran and a hydraulic mechanic working on commercial equipment. Troy loved his family and fishing.

    He was a 1952 graduate of Waurika High School. He and Charlene Snider married May 31, 1952, in Waurika.
