DUNCAN —
Norma Gene Click, 89 of Duncan, passed away Monday, Oct. 08, 2012 at the Sterling House of Duncan.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dick Greenwood and Rev. Bryan Pain officiating, interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada, arrangements are under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Norma Gene Shipley was the oldest of three children born to George Robert and Ada Elizabeth Shipley; she was born in an oil field camp between Shamrock and Drumright in Creek County. She attended a one room school house until the third grade; she attended many different school because of her father’s employment in the oil fields,
She graduated from Ada High School and started college at East Central State College in Ada and finished her second year while her husband served in the Navy during WWll. She was a full time mom with two children when they moved to Duncan in 1953. She taught swimming for the Red Cross, was a Girl Scout leader and taught Sunday school along with being a wife, mom and a homemaker.
She returned to college at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha and was certified to teach kindergarten through eight grades, she returned to college to receive her master’s degree from East Central State College. She taught fifth and sixth grade at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and later moved to Duncan Junior High, where she taught seventh grade science until her retirement.
Norma was president of the Duncan Educational Association for two years and retired after 25 years of teaching at the Duncan Public School system in 1985. After retirement she became a volunteer at the Duncan Regional Hospital and a faithful member of the Stephens County Retired Educators Association, she was chosen as a VIM (Very Important Member) of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association in 2008. Norma was married to Claude Click on July 16, 1941, in Taos, N.M., Claude preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1995, she and Claude were both long time members of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son; Robert Frank Click of Tulsa, a daughter; Carole Lynn Clawson of Duncan, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a sister; Madeline Hargrave of Wewoka.
Norma Gene was preceded in death by her husband; Claude, parents; George Robert and Ada Elizabeth Shipley and a brother.
Pallbearers will be Rex Frye, Damon Phillips, Jim Dryden, Gerald Vincent, Clifford McGhghy and Joe Galey.
Honorary pallbearer will be Ken Klingensmith
